How to use the Pictionary word generator
Playing a round takes four steps.
Pick a level
Easy is for kids and quick warm ups, Medium suits family nights, Hard is for confident drawers. “All” mixes the three, and “Mine” uses your own list.
Set the timer
Choose how long each drawer gets, then press New word. The word stays hidden until you tap the card, so only the drawer sees it.
Draw and guess
The drawer sketches on paper, a whiteboard or the built in sketch pad. No letters, no numbers, no talking.
Score it
Press Got it if the team guessed, or Skip to draw another word. Add or remove points for Team A and Team B with the plus and minus buttons.
What this generator does that a plain word list does not
The tool loads with the page and runs in your browser, so it stays quick on a phone and does not need an app download.
Tap to reveal card
Hides the word until the drawer taps.
Stops the guessers from peeking over a shoulder or at a shared screen.
Round timer
Counts down with a ring, plays a chime at the end.
Keeps rounds fair and moving.
Team scores
Two teams, plus and minus, reset.
No need for a notepad.
Sketch pad
Draw on screen with undo.
Works on video calls or when nobody has paper.
My words
Add your own words, saved in your browser.
Teachers can load vocabulary or topic terms.
Recent words
Shows what already came up.
Avoids repeats in a long game.
Copy button

Handy for sending to one person on a call.
Keyboard shortcuts
New word, Got it and Skip without the mouse.
Faster on a laptop.
Pictionary word ideas by difficulty

Kids pick Easy, adults pick Hard, and one phone runs the whole game.

Parties
Skip the paper cards and the argument over who shuffled them.
This page lists objects, not phrases or movie titles. If you want Pictionary words for adults, funny rounds or holiday themes, add them yourself in My words.
How to play Pictionary without the board
You only need this page, something to draw on and a way to keep time.
- Split into two teams of two or more.
- One person from the first team opens the card and reads the word privately.
- They start the timer and draw. Standard play gives the drawer 60 seconds.
- Teammates shout guesses. The drawer may not speak, write letters or numbers, or act out the word.
- If the team guesses in time, press Got it. If not, the turn ends and play passes to the other team.
- Rotate the drawer each turn. First team to an agreed score wins.
The same rules work on a whiteboard, a sheet of paper or the sketch pad on screen. For scoring, timer options and the official board rules, read our Pictionary rules guide.
Playing with two people
Take turns as drawer and guesser. Give each round 60 seconds and count how many words you guess in five rounds. Beat your own total next time.
Playing in a classroom
Put the teams at the board, let one student draw at a time and keep rounds short so every student gets a turn.
Pictionary vs charades vs Catch Phrase
| Game | How you give clues | Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pictionary | Drawing | Pictures and symbols | Letters, numbers, speaking |
| Charades | Acting | Gestures and body movement | Speaking, props that make sound |
| Catch Phrase | Talking | Describing the word | Saying the word itself |
The three games share the same idea: one person knows the answer and the team has to guess it before time runs out. Pictionary is the quietest of the three, which makes it a good fit for classrooms and shared rooms.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Pictionary word generator?
It is a tool that picks a random word for the drawer, so you do not need printed cards. This one also runs the timer and keeps team scores.
Is this generator free?
Yes. There is no account, no download and no limit on rounds.
How many words does it have?
300 objects: 100 easy, 100 medium and 100 hard. You can add your own in My words.
Are these the official Pictionary words?
No. They are our own list of common objects, written for friendly play. They are not copied from the board game cards.
Can I play Pictionary without the board or cards?
Yes. Use the generator for words, paper or a whiteboard for drawing, and the timer on this page. The rules are in the section above.
How long does each Pictionary round last?
Standard play gives the drawer 60 seconds. You can change the timer for younger players or a harder list.
Can two people play Pictionary?
Yes. Take turns drawing and guessing, and count how many words you get right in a set number of rounds.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The layout fits a phone screen, and you can draw with a finger in the sketch pad.
Will I see the same word twice?
The generator goes through a shuffled deck before it repeats, and the Recent tab shows what has already come up.
Are my custom words saved?
They are saved in your own browser only. Clearing site data removes them.
